Osimhen is 4-goal hero!

Victor Osimhen delivered four goals as Nigeria overwhelmed São Tomé and Príncipe 10-0 in Matchday 2 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

In a virtually empty Stade d’Agadir in Morocco, which the Island nation adopted for their home matches, Osimhen also provided two assists for Moses Simon and Terem Moffi, the Lorient striker who played his second game for his country.

This is Nigeria’s second win in as many matches, lifting the Super Eagles to the top of Group A, awaiting the result of Sierra Leone game against Guinea-Bissau. While the Guineans walloped São Tomé in their opening fixture 5-1, Nigeria came from a goal down to beat Sierra Leone 2-1.

Osimhen opened the harvest of goals in the ninth minute through Simon’s pass. The Napoli striker would later return the favour to Simon in the 28th minute, while Moffi, starting for Nigeria for the first time, closed the half 3-0 with his Osimhen-assisted goal two minutes to the end.

Back from the break, the Eagles continued to rip São Tomé apart. Osimhen had his second goal –Nigeria’s fourth on the day –in the 48th minute, assisted by Ademola Lukman. He will add two more to move his contribution to four goal in the 65th and 84th minutes with passes from captain Ahmed Musa. Those were goal Nos 8 and 9.

Moffi’s other goal arrived in the 60th minute, in between Osimhen’s secong strike and Oghenekaro Etebo’s 55th minute’s freekick.

Lukman and second half substitute Emmanuel Dennis struck in the 63rd minute and added time respectively.

Nigeria will host Guinea-Bissau in September on Matchday 3, while São Tomé will tackle Sierra Leone away.
