NCF holds 20th S L Edu lecture 6th July

The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), a premier non-governmental organisation dedicated to nature conservation and sustainable development the country, is set to host the 20th edition of its annual memorial lecture in honor of Chief Shafi Lawal Edu.

The annual event, which holds on Wednesday 6th July at Muson Centre in Lagos, is organised by the NCF to honour the life and times of one of Nigeria’s nationalist, statesman and environmental advocate, popularly known as Chief S. L Edu.

The lecture, which is sponsored by Chevron Nigeria, aims to bring environmental issues to the forefront of national debate, while articulating solutions through expert discourse around the importance of nature and environmental preservation from key stakeholders across the country.

Over the years, the lecture has served as a platform by Chevron Nigeria to further research in the areas of nature conservation, biodiversity, environmental management and sustainable livelihood by providing a grant to two PhD students studying environmental and biological sciences at any Nigerian university.

The theme of this year’s lecture is, “Only One Earth,”and will feature a conversation with the celebrated British naturalist, Sir David Attenborough.

The event will have in attendance the Minister of State for Environment, Chief Sharon Ikeazor; the Chairman of the Lekki State Urban Forest and Animal Initiative, Mr Desmond Majekodunmi, the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner, Teshome Nkrumah; traditional rulers, business executives, community leaders, members of Civil Society Organisations, the academia, and others will be in attendance.

In its 19-year history, the lecture has featured renowned stakeholders and experts including former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan; Alliance for Religions and Conservation, UK, Mr Martin Palmer; University of Kenya’s Prof. Charles Okidi; former Head of Nigeria’s Interim Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan; Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (former Nigerian Minister of Environment), Ms. Amina Mohammed; the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.

NCF is dedicated to nature conservation and sustainable development in Nigeria. Established in 1980, the Foundation was registered in 1982 as a Charitable Trust under the Land (Perpetual Succession) Act of 1961. Founded by late Chief S. L. Edu. Nigeria’s President serves NCN’s patron.
