A new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) has been appointed for the Zone 16 Command of the Nigerian Police with headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He is Adebola Ayinde Hamzat.
In a statement in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Tuesday, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Emonena Gunn said the new appointment by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, followed the retirement of the erstwhile AIG Paul Alifa Omata.
“AIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, an indigene of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, was commissioned into the Nigeria Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on 18 May 1992.
“He is a graduate of Sociology from the University of Ilorin and holds a Masters in Conflict Management and Peace Studies, University of Jos, and a Ph.D in Peace and Development Studies from the University if Ilorin.
“He is a seasoned officer of repute and a distinguished fellow of the defence college”, the police spokesperson said.
According to the statement, Hamzat has served in different capacities in the police force and globally.
“He is a well-known investigator and intelligence professional whose operational experience and core intelligence abilities earned him commendable duty tours in the United Nations Missions in Kosovo (UNMIK) and Timor Leste (East Timor).
“Until his recent posting to the Zone as the 9th Zonal Commander, AIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat was the immediate past AIG in charge of the Counter Terrorism Unit of the Nigeria Police Force. He also served as Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, and Commissioner of Police Border Patrol Force, respectively,” the statement added.
The statement further called on the people of Bayelsa and Rivers states to fully cooperate and support Hamzat to enable him to bring to bear his extensive knowledge and proven skills in policing in line with Egbetokun’s agenda.
