This initiative aims to educate citizens about the benefits of using credit to access essential goods and services.
The launch event, held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, attracted members of the public, various market communities, diverse trade associations, and leaders from financial institutions.
Speaking at the occasion, Engr. Uzoma Nwagba, the Managing Director of CREDICORP, announced that the campaign will continue across various Nigerian states over the coming months.
He explained its purpose: to encourage citizens to understand the vital role credit plays in building a better life.
Nwagba stated, “CREDICORP operates under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with a mission to make it easier for working Nigerians to acquire items such as vehicles, solar energy systems, and home renovations through instalment payments, rather than relying solely on cash.”
According to Nwagba, this awareness initiative, which represents the third pillar of the corporation’s strategy, seeks to reshape public perception of credit.
Through its mandate, the Corporation enables Nigerians to acquire essential goods and services – such as locally assembled vehicles, solar solutions, and home improvement products – on credit, rather than relying on limited cash based transactions.
It actively encourages people to view loans not as a trap, but as a practical tool for self reliance and a means to achieve an improved standard of living.
He explained that CREDICORP collaborates with banks and faith based lending institutions to facilitate access to credit for Nigerians.
“Through its mandate, the Corporation enables Nigerians to acquire essential goods and services – such as locally assembled vehicles, solar solutions, and home improvement products – on credit, rather than relying on limited cash based transactions,” he elaborated.
Nwagba also highlighted that the event actively engages financial institutions.
It also encourages a transition from traditional collateral heavy models to more inclusive credit assessment methods, which better reflect the realities of everyday Nigerians.
In his remarks, Mustapha Muhammad, the Kano Regional Manager for Ecobank, expressed his bank’s firm commitment to partnering with CREDICORP for the programme’s success.
