Nigeria’s U20 female football team are all but certain of featuring at the world stage when this year’s FIFA World Cup kicks off on 10th August in Costa Rica.
The Falconets only need to sustain the 3-1 away result recorded against their Senegalese counterparts on Saturday evening to secure one of Africa’s two tickets into the finals.
Nigeria had been to all the nine previous global tournaments finishing as runners-up in 2010 and 2014. Fourth placed team in Japan 2012, the Falconets exited in the quarterfinals four times and could not survive the group stage in the other two editions.
On the road to the final qualifying stage at the continent this time, Nigeria beat Central African Republic 11-0 on aggregate in the second round, and walked over Congo Republic in the next stage.
Cameroon suffered 3-0 aggregate defeat, and now the Senegalese have suffered in the hands of the Falconets.
In Dakar, Nigeria led 3-0 up till the 85th minute.
They host Senegal in the second leg on 26th March.
