Methodist Bishops starts council meeting in Abuja Monday

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Archdiocese of Abuja will host the 42nd Council of Bishops in Abuja from Monday, 30 June to Monday, 7 July 2025.

‎According to a statement by the Chairman of the Publicity Sub Committee of 2025 Bishop Hosting Central Planning Committee, Sir ‘Tunde Babalola, the opening session of the Council will hold on Tuesday, 1 July 2025 by 10am at the Methodist Cathedral of Unity, Wuse, Abuja.

‎The theme of the Council tagged “Abuja 2025” is “He will Rise Again”.

‎The statement added that the Methodist Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace, Most Rev. Michael Olusegun Akinwale, will be the Chief Host while the Secretary of Conference, Rt. Rev. Babatunde Taiwo; Bishop of the Diocese of Nyanya, Rt. Rev. Kehinde Adeyemi; Bishop of the Diocese of Kubwa, Rt. Rev. F. A. G. Onoja and the Bishop of the Diocese of Niger, Rt. Rev. Basil Pozonlin are the Hosts.

‎The statement added that the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rt. Rev. S. T. V. Adegbite and the Executive Secretary of Christian Council of Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Evans Onyemara are Co-Hosts.

‎The Central Planning  Committee of the 42nd Council of Bishops was chaired by the Lay President of Abuja Archdiocese, Sir John Kayode-Beckley, while Very Rev. Anenechukwu C. Ede served as the Secretary.

According to the statement, the Central Planning Committee has concluded all arrangements to mobilise all Methodist faithful in Abuja Archdiocese of Nigeria’s premier Church – The Methodist Church Nigeria- to welcome the Bishops.

‎The statement further stated that there would be special presentations for the Bishops from Tuesday to Saturday when the Prelate’s Party would hold by 5 pm.

‎The Methodist Council of Bishops is the apex leadership body of the Methodist Church Nigeria. It comprises of over 125 Bishops and Archbishops headed by The Prelate, His Eminence Oliver Ali Aba.

‎The Council deliberates on national and international issues, proffer solutions to them, and would also pray for continued peace, progress, development and stability of Nigeria.
