Benjamin Mendy, a defender for Manchester City, has been exonerated of seven of the nine assault allegations that had been brought against him. However, the case is not quite ended because he still faces retrial in two other instances.
The France international was detained after being taken into custody in August 2021 as he was not given bail. His contract with Manchester City, which runs in June 2023, was not terminated; but, a month after his arrest, they ceased paying him.
The French born defender of African descent was arraigned over seven charges of r*pe and two charges of sexual assaults, as reported by Sky Sports.
As written by BBC News, after 14 days of deliberation, jurors could not reach verdicts on Mr Mendy’s alleged attempted r*pe of a woman, 29, in 2018 and the alleged r*pe of another woman, 24, in October 2020.
Social media flared at the news he has been cleared of seven out of his nine charges
