All is now set for the 2025 annual conference of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) with top players in the industry expected to converge on Wednesday, at the prestigious Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event Maritime Annual Lecture (MAMAL), as the annual event is known, will this time focus on “Addressing the Burden of War Risk Insurance on Nigeria’s Maritime Trade”.
According to a statement by MARAN’s President Godfrey Bivbiere, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola will be the Special Guest of Honour, leading major industry regulators, operators, and security stakeholders.
Prominent industry leaders expected at the lecture include the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dr. Dayo Mobereola; Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barrister Pius Akutah Ukeyima; Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Gregory Oaemen; and Executive Director (Operations and Technical) of Tantita Security Services, Capt. Warredi Enisuoh.
The event will be chaired by Chairman of Starzs Investment Limited, Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, with the keynote address to be delivered by a maritime lawyer, Dr. Emeka Akabogu, while the Chairman, Integrated Oil and Gas, Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho is a special guest of honour.
According to Bivbere, MAMAL 2025 would provide a platform for frank discussions and pragmatic recommendations to ease the huge financial burden imposed by war risk insurance premiums on vessels calling at Nigerian ports.
He noted that the outcome of the lecture would serve as a guide for policy makers and industry players in addressing the issue, and permanently put the abnormal premium payments to rest.
