The Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC) in Kaduna, which recently gathered together stakeholders and partners to discuss climate action and environmental sustainability in the state and beyond, has highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.

Participants at the end-of-year climate hangout forum, organised in collaboration with African Climate Reporters (ACR) and the Office of the Special Assistant to the state Governor on Climate Change, commended the the state government for its efforts in promoting climate resilience and environmental sustainability.

The Head of Communications and Strategy at ACR Nigeria, Ibrahima Yakubu said that the government’s efforts included ‘the introduction of eco-friendly public transport systems and large-scale desilting and clearing of water channels to prevent flooding’.

He also acknowledged the government’s commitment to building a greener and climate-smart state, and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who participated in the monthly climate hangouts throughout 2025.

Yakubu expressed appreciation to the state Ministry of Information, led by the Commissioner, Mallam Ahmed Maiyaki, for its continued support and collaboration.

He also thanked the Special Assistant to the Governor on Climate Change, Mallam Yusuf Idris Amoke for his guidance, leadership, and dedication to advancing climate resilience initiatives across the state.

The event brought together stakeholders, partners, and participants to discuss climate action and environmental sustainability in Kaduna State and beyond.

The state Ministry of Information will host the January edition of the Kaduna Monthly Climate Hangout Forum, further solidifying the state’s commitment to climate action. Kaduna State has emerged as a leader in climate governance in Nigeria, ranking third in the 2025 Sub-national Climate Governance Performance Ranking.

The state’s efforts to address climate change include the unveiling of a 10-year Climate Change Policy, the launch of the Greening Kaduna Initiative, and the distribution of solar-powered irrigation pumps to small holder farmers. These initiatives demonstrate the state’s commitment to low-carbon, climate-resilient development pathways.

As the IMC looks ahead to 2026, confidence is high that the new year will bring even greater collaboration, innovation, and success in shared efforts to address climate change and promote environmental sustainability.
