The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Zamfara State Chapter, has called for urgent action by the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Kasuwar Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

The attack, which occurred on Friday, reportedly left several people dead and injured, while an unspecified number of residents were abducted.

In a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Kasim Almustapha Kayatawa, the NDC said it received the news of the attack on the Kasuwar Daji Area Development Council with “shock and deep sorrow”.

The party’s State Chairman, Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako, described the incident as further evidence of the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara, particularly in border communities.

“The killing, maiming and kidnapping of innocent citizens is unacceptable,” Mai Katako said. “This unfortunate incident is yet another reminder of the fragile security situation in our state. Our people can no longer live in fear.”

The party called on the Zamfara State Government to strengthen security by increasing patrols, intensifying intelligence gathering and providing greater support to local vigilante groups operating in Kaura Namoda and other vulnerable border communities.

It also urged the Federal Government and security agencies to deploy additional personnel and modern equipment to the state to tackle banditry and kidnapping more effectively.

In addition, the NDC appealed to residents and community leaders to work closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent future attacks.

Reaffirming that the protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government, the party said residents should be able to farm, trade and live in peace without fear of violence or abduction.

Mai Katako extended condolences to the families of those killed and affected by the attack, the people of Kasuwar Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area and the Zamfara State Government. He also prayed for the repose of the deceased, the speedy recovery of those injured and the safe return of those abducted.

The NDC said it stood in solidarity with the victims and remained committed to advocating peace, justice and responsive governance.

Kaura Namoda, a border local government area in Zamfara State, has experienced repeated attacks by armed groups in recent years. According to the party, the persistent insecurity has forced many farmers to abandon their farmlands and traders to shut their businesses, with severe consequences for local livelihoods and economic activity.
