The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has said its final report on the fatal road crash involving former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua will be made public within the next 30 to 60 days.
The Director-General of the NSIB, Alex Badeh Jr, disclosed this on Friday during a virtual engagement with transport journalists.
Badeh said the bureau had completed its investigation and submitted its findings to relevant stakeholders for their observations, in accordance with the procedures governing accident investigations.
He explained that the process required the NSIB to circulate a draft report to relevant parties before publishing the final version.
“The report on Anthony Joshua’s accident should be out to the public in the next 30 to 60 days. We have sent our findings to the appropriate quarters as required by the law. It’s after this that we can then release it to the public,” he said.
The NSIB chief, however, said the bureau did not receive the level of cooperation it expected from the Nigeria Police Force during the investigation, although some assistance was provided.
“On the police, we didn’t receive enough cooperation from them, but we received some. We would have loved to receive more from them and other necessary agencies,” Badeh said.
He said the police maintained that they had the statutory responsibility to investigate road traffic accidents, describing the issue as part of a longstanding disagreement involving the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Badeh stressed that the NSIB’s mandate was fundamentally different from that of criminal investigators, noting that its recommendations were designed to prevent future accidents rather than determine blame or criminal liability.
He said the bureau was working to strengthen its relationship with law enforcement and other relevant agencies.
According to him, the appointment of Nuhu Ribadu, a former police officer, as National Security Adviser had also created an opportunity for improved understanding and cooperation among government agencies.
The crash occurred on 29 December 2025 in the Makun area of Ogun State, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Two members of Joshua’s team, Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latif” Ayodele, were killed in the accident, while Joshua sustained minor injuries.
Badeh also disclosed that the NSIB was still awaiting statutory funding from some agencies in the transport sector.
He said the bureau was yet to receive its three per cent allocation from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and six per cent due from the Nigerian Railway Corporation, while the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria had continued to meet its financial obligations.
Meanwhile, Joshua returned to the ring last month, defeating Kristian Prenga by a second-round knockout despite being knocked down twice.
The former champion dedicated the bout to the memory of Ghami and Ayodele.
