National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Henry Seriake Dickson, has appointed former Editor of The Sun Newspapers, Steve Nwosu, as his spokesperson.

Dickson also appointed Sani Takori as a senior member of his political and administrative team and named media executive VinMartin Obiora Ilo as Chief Technical Adviser.

The appointments, which take immediate effect, are aimed at strengthening the administration, strategic communication and overall coordination of Dickson’s office and the NDC, according to a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.

The appointees are expected to support Dickson in his dual capacity as National Leader of the NDC and a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Nwosu, a long-time associate of Dickson, is a veteran journalist, media administrator, consultant and political communication strategist with more than 30 years’ experience across print, broadcasting and digital journalism.

A graduate of the University of Nigeria and Lagos Business School, he has worked with leading Nigerian newspapers, including The Guardian and THISDAY, where he held several editorial positions, including Features Editor, Political Editor, Editor of THISDAY Style and Editor of THISDAY on Saturday.

He joined The Sun Newspapers at its establishment as pioneer Editor of Saturday Sun. He subsequently served as Editor of Daily Sun, Executive Director of Corporate Services, Deputy Managing Director and Deputy Editor-in-Chief.

Nwosu later left The Sun to establish The Nigerian Xpress Newspaper. He also had a stint with PLUSTVAfrica as Controller of News and served on the editorial boards of THISDAY and The Sun.

He is currently Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Edibofa Communication and Publishing Limited, owners of People’s FM 105.5 Abuja, People’s FM 93.1 Yenagoa, Universal Television Africa (UTV Africa) and The Nigerian Xpress Newspaper.

Nwosu is also known for his weekly satirical column, FRANKTALK, which is syndicated across several platforms. He served for eight years on the Standing Committee of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, first representing the West Zone and later as Treasurer.

In the statement, Dickson said Nwosu and Ilo brought considerable professionalism, credibility and integrity to their new assignments, while describing Takori as a tested public administrator with an extensive political and legal background.

Takori, a lawyer, began his public service career in the old Sokoto State before serving in various legal and judicial capacities in Zamfara State, including Registrar, Magistrate, Solicitor-General and Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University and the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Takori represented his constituency in the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007.

He is also a founding member of the NDC and served as its Protem National Secretary when the party was registered.

Takori, who previously served as a local government chairman, was National Legal Adviser to the Council of Ulamas and Chief Legal Officer of the Nigerian Electoral Commission. He also served as secretary of the Yarima presidential campaign in 2007, having performed the same role in 2003.

The 68-year-old politician and lawyer is from Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Ilo, the newly appointed Chief Technical Adviser, is a media executive, broadcast journalist and development and international relations specialist with nearly four decades of experience spanning broadcasting, public service, strategic communications and development consultancy.

He holds a degree in Mass Communication from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, an MSc in Development Studies from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a master’s degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University.

Ilo is also an alumnus of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

He began his broadcasting career with Radio Nigeria, where he rose to become a network newscaster, before joining Africa Independent Television (AIT). He retired from AIT in 2013 as Director of Special Duties and South-East Operations.

He previously served as Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Enugu State and was a member of the Governing Board of the National Broadcasting Commission.

Before his latest appointment, Ilo was President and Chief Executive Officer of Signature TV. He is from Enugu State.

Dickson said the appointments were intended to enhance the effectiveness of his office and the NDC as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
