The Nigerian Navy have uncovered and deactivated suspected crude oil storage facilities containing about 93,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil in Allison Community, Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The operation was conducted on August 20, 2026, by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny under Operation Delta Sentinel, the Navy’s ongoing effort to combat crude oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta.
The Director of Information, Commodore Abiodun Folorunsho, said the operation followed intelligence reports indicating suspected illegal crude oil storage activities in the community.
According to him, naval personnel discovered 10 dugout pits at the site. Five of the pits contained an estimated 93,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil, while the remaining five were filled with water.
Folorunsho added that a substantial quantity of hoses believed to have been used to move and transfer crude oil was also found at the location.
He said the recovered products, dugout pits and other materials were dealt with in line with established operational procedures.
The Navy spokesman said the operation had disrupted suspected crude oil theft activities in the area and denied criminal elements access to infrastructure and equipment needed to sustain the illicit trade.
“The latest success underscores the Nigerian Navy’s sustained operational pressure against the infrastructure supporting crude oil theft in the Niger Delta,” Folorunsho said.
He added that the operation demonstrated the Navy’s commitment to identifying and dismantling networks involved in the illegal exploitation of Nigeria’s natural resources.
Folorunsho said the Nigerian Navy would continue to sustain Operation Delta Sentinel to protect critical national assets, secure oil and gas infrastructure and prevent economic saboteurs from operating within Nigeria’s maritime environment.
