Arsenal are reportedly seeking to persuade Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen to reduce his wage demands as the club considers a move for the Nigeria international before the summer transfer window closes.

The Gunners remain interested in signing Osimhen as manager Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his attacking options following their failure to convince Atlético Madrid to sell Julián Álvarez.

According to Foot Mercato, Arsenal have held direct talks regarding a potential deal for Osimhen but are reluctant to offer a contract that would significantly stretch their wage structure.

The 27-year-old is reportedly earning more than €20 million (£17.1 million) a year at Galatasaray, a figure Arsenal are said to be unwilling to match. Any move could therefore depend on whether Osimhen is prepared to accept a lower salary.

Negotiations over a transfer fee could present another challenge. Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has maintained that Osimhen is not for sale, with the Turkish club reportedly rejecting a €130 million (£111 million) bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal earlier this month.

Al-Hilal subsequently turned their attention to Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, but their reported £45 million offer was also rejected.

Despite continued uncertainty over his future, Osimhen has made an impressive start to the new season in Turkey.

The striker scored twice and provided an assist as Galatasaray secured a 4-0 away victory over Erzurumspor on Friday. He had also scored twice in their 2-2 draw with Çorum FK.

Osimhen is expected to continue leading the attack for the Turkish champions while Arsenal consider whether to step up their pursuit of the forward before the transfer window closes.
