Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team has made history by qualifying for the Olympic Games for the first time after defeating Morocco 2-0 in the final of the 2026 CAVB Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship in Alexandria, Egypt, on Saturday.

The victory secured Nigeria’s place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.

The Nigerian duo dominated Morocco in both sets, winning 21-17 and 21-10 to claim the gold medal and book their ticket to the Olympics.

Earlier in the day, Nigeria defeated Mozambique 2-0 in the semi-final, winning both sets 21-17.

Reacting to the historic achievement, Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) President Musa Nimrod congratulated Nigerians and described the victory as a triumph for the entire country.

“I wish to congratulate Nigerians and thank God. This is the fourth time we are going into the finals; we finished in second place on three occasions,” Nimrod said.

“God has done it for us on our fourth trial and given us victory. It is not the Nigeria Volleyball Federation’s success alone but the entire nation,” he added.

The qualification ends Nigeria’s previous near-misses and marks a significant milestone for the country’s women’s beach volleyball team.
