The federal government said its decision to dualise the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road aims to ease movement between Oyo and Ogun states, improve connectivity to the Lagos-Ogun economic corridor, and boost trade and other economic activities along the route.
The project, approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), will be formally flagged off on Monday, 24 August 2026, at the open field of Legacy Estate along the Idi Ayunre axis of the road in Ibadan.
The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, said the dualisation was part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda to modernise critical road infrastructure, improve the travel experience, and create conditions for stronger economic growth.
The contract for the project was awarded to JRB Construction Limited following FEC approval, Umahi disclosed in an invitation to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, dated 20 August.
Umahi described the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode corridor as an important transport link connecting Oyo and Ogun states and facilitating movement between Ibadan and the Lagos-Ogun axis. He added that the project is expected to improve the movement of people, agricultural produce, and other goods along the corridor, reduce transportation bottlenecks, and support commercial activities.
The Minister also stressed the importance of involving traditional institutions and other stakeholders in infrastructure projects, saying their participation would strengthen collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments, and host communities.
Meanwhile, the Olubadan has urged stakeholders across Ibadanland to attend the flag-off ceremony.
In a statement on Friday, Oba Ladoja called on members of the Olubadan-in-Council, Ibadan Royal Highnesses, Mogajis, Baales, and the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) to turn out for the event.
The monarch described the project as a significant infrastructure intervention that would enhance connectivity, ease transportation, and stimulate economic activities across the region.
