The Ogun State Government has mourned the death of veteran actor and filmmaker, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Ogun State, Nigeria’s creative industry and the nation at large.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the state government described the Ilaro-born actor as more than an accomplished performer, noting that his talent, discipline and dedication helped promote Nigerian culture and project Yoruba heritage to audiences within and outside the country.
Akinmade said Ogogo distinguished himself throughout his illustrious career through his artistry, humility, candour and professionalism, earning the admiration of colleagues and generations of Nigerians.
According to the statement, the veteran actor remained a proud ambassador of his roots and made significant contributions to the preservation of the Yoruba language, traditions and values through theatre, film and television.
The state government said Ogogo’s death had created a painful void that would be deeply felt by his family, the people of Ilaro, Ogun State, the Nigerian creative community and his numerous admirers across the world.
On behalf of the Ogun State Government, Akinmade extended condolences to the late actor’s family, friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
He also prayed for the repose of Ogogo’s soul and for God to grant strength and comfort to everyone mourning his passing.
“His voice may have fallen silent, but his works, values and contributions to our cultural heritage will continue to speak for generations,” the statement added.
