A fire outbreak has destroyed spare parts and vehicle tyres worth millions of naira at Araromi Market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred on Saturday night at the market in the Onipasan area of Ibadan North-East Local Government Area.

Several shops dealing in vehicle tyres and spare parts were reportedly affected by the inferno.

No death was recorded in the incident.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the outbreak in a statement made available to journalists.

Akinwande said the prompt intervention of firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to other shops and nearby properties.

He said, “Upon arrival, the crew met disused tyres and spare parts engulfed in flames and threatening the surrounding shops and nearby properties.

“The firefighters immediately commenced firefighting operations and requested reinforcement from the Fire Service Headquarters. Consequently, one additional fire truck was deployed to the scene as backup.”

The cause of the fire and the exact value of goods destroyed had yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing the report.
