Bose Ogulu, mother and manager of Afrobeats star Burna Boy, has revealed that she sometimes takes her son’s phone away when he becomes too outspoken during his Instagram Live sessions.
Ogulu made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels Television, where she discussed Burna Boy’s personality and his often controversial moments on social media.
According to her, she has learnt to allow the singer to express himself rather than attempting to completely change the traits that define his personality.
Ogulu explained that there is a noticeable difference between her own social media posts and those of her son, adding that artists such as Burna Boy should be allowed to remain true to themselves.
“You can always notice the difference between when I tweet and when Burna tweets. What I’ve come to learn is that artists like him, they’re like a tapestry. If you pull at one thread too hard, everything will unravel,” she said.
She noted that some of the emotions that contribute to Burna Boy’s controversial behaviour are also responsible for qualities that his fans admire.
“So you must make allowances for this person being himself, because it’s the same emotion that what you love about him comes from. Within, we do what we can. I usually grab his phone from him anytime he goes wild on Instagram Live,” she said.
Burna Boy is known for his outspoken presence on social media, with his Instagram Live sessions occasionally attracting attention over his comments, opinions and interactions with fans.
Ogulu’s comments highlight her approach to managing the Grammy-winning singer while allowing him to maintain the personality and spontaneity that have become part of his public image.
