The Nigerian Army has rescued Mrs Adonkie, the wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, who was abducted from her residence in Abuja on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.
The operation also led to the arrest of two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
In a statement, the Army said troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison launched a coordinated pursuit operation shortly after the abduction.
The troops were deployed along several suspected escape routes as part of efforts to locate the victim and apprehend the abductors.
According to the statement, acting on credible intelligence, the troops advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis, where they made contact with the kidnappers.
The Army said the suspects, overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower, abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes.
Mrs Adonkie was subsequently rescued at Angwan Sabo Village, according to the military.
The troops then intensified clearance and tracking operations along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis, while additional personnel were deployed to block possible escape routes.
In a follow-up operation on Wednesday, 2 September, troops intercepted two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The Army said the suspects were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
It added that clearance and tracking operations were continuing across the area in an effort to apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network.
The Nigerian Army commended residents for their vigilance and cooperation, while assuring the public of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property.
The military said it would continue to work with other security agencies to conduct intelligence-led joint operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and improving security across the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring areas.
