The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has pledged to make policies that directly improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians a major focus of his presidential campaign.
Makinde made the commitment on Monday in Abuja while commissioning the Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Office, an event attended by Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and other political leaders.
The Oyo governor stressed the importance of involving Nigerians in the formulation and implementation of government policies, saying citizens should have greater access to the benefits of the country’s natural resources.
Makinde, while highlighting Nigeria’s status as an oil-producing country, said more efforts were needed to ensure that petroleum products remained accessible and affordable to citizens.
He said his campaign would prioritise policies designed to address the everyday challenges facing Nigerians and improve their standard of living.
Speaking at the event, Governor Bala Mohammed said the gathering formed part of efforts to promote a new leadership direction for the country.
Mohammed said the proposed vision was anchored on tact, accountability and responsible governance, while reiterating his call for a “Reset Nigeria”.
Also present was the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who said political differences should not prevent leaders from working together towards a common national objective.
Obi said the gathering demonstrated that politicians from different political platforms could set aside their differences and unite around the need to tackle the challenges confronting Nigeria.
