Suspected Boko Haram fighters have killed at least 13 people, injured another and abducted a 14-year-old girl during an attack on Dzangola Kilba community in Guyaku Ward, Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The attack occurred on Sunday when the insurgents invaded the community, opened fire on residents and set several buildings and other property ablaze.
An eyewitness said the teenage girl was abducted while attempting to flee with her grandmother. Her whereabouts remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.
The attackers reportedly burnt two shops, three houses and an EYN church during the assault, forcing residents to escape into nearby bushes and forests for safety.
Two victims, a father and his son, were initially injured in the attack and taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Hong, for treatment.
However, the father died at the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, while his son remained at the facility receiving treatment.
His death raised the reported death toll from the attack to 13.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the security situation in Dzangola and neighbouring communities in the Gombi axis, where residents have reportedly experienced repeated attacks.
Community members have appealed to the Adamawa State Government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area and take urgent steps to secure the safe return of the abducted girl.
“We are pleading with the Adamawa State Governor, His Excellency Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to look into this matter and take action,” a resident said.
