The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected drug dealer in the Apata area of Ibadan, the state capital.
The suspect, identified as Rilwan ‘M’, was arrested on Friday, September 11, 2026, at about 8am following credible intelligence received by the police.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Sunday.
According to Ayanlade, surveillance operatives attached to the Iyaganku Area Command commenced targeted operations based on the intelligence, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The police said suspected dangerous drugs were recovered from him during the operation.
“Recovered from him were a quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, alongside other suspected dangerous drugs,” Ayanlade said.
The PPRO said the suspect remained in police custody and was cooperating with investigators as preliminary investigations continued to establish the source and extent of his alleged involvement in the illicit drug trade.
He added that investigators were also working to identify other individuals who might be connected to the alleged activities.
Ayanlade said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of the preliminary investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, described illicit drugs as a significant catalyst for various forms of crime and criminality.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.

The commissioner also assured residents that the command would continue efforts to identify and disrupt the supply chains of illicit drugs and other elements linked to criminal activities.
He urged members of the public to continue providing credible and actionable information to the police to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality in Oyo State.
