Chowdeck riders earn an average of N100,000 a week, with the platform’s highest-performing riders earning significantly more, the company’s chief executive, Femi Aluko, has said.
He said riders’ earnings largely depend on the number of deliveries they complete and the distance they cover, noting that they are also paid according to the kilometres travelled.
“Chowdeck riders earn an average of N100,000 per week while staying fit. The best ones make much higher than that. It’s a game of numbers, the more delivery you do, the more you’re able to earn and cover distance and kilometres because they’re also paid by kilometres,” Aluko said.
The figure led the interviewer to calculate that riders earning N100,000 a week could make about N400,000 a month, particularly those using bicycles.
“So you’re telling me those boys riding those bicycles make N100K in a week. So in a month, N400K, riding a bicycle,” the interviewer said.
Aluko confirmed the calculation but noted that riders also incur operating costs, including expenses associated with maintaining their bicycles.
“That’s correct, yeah. Again, it also comes with its own cost, like you have to maintain your bicycles,” he said.
His comments indicate that riders’ actual earnings can vary considerably depending on the volume of deliveries they complete and the distance covered, while higher-performing riders may earn substantially more than the stated weekly average.
