Nigerian dancer and entertainer Poco Lee has spoken publicly for the first time since being released on bail in the United Kingdom, saying he remained mentally strong because he knew he was innocent of the allegation against him.
Poco Lee made the comments during a video call with social commentator VeryDarkMan, which was shared on social media on Sunday.
The entertainer said his main concern during his time away was the welfare of his associates and the effect of his absence on their businesses.
“I was just being myself. God sees my heart. My only worries were about my people. Jago could not do anything business, and I didn’t want to stress anyone,” he said.
He said his knowledge of his own innocence helped him remain calm throughout the ordeal.
“If I was inside there and I did what I was accused of, I would have felt I was paying for my sins, but since I knew I didn’t do what I was accused of, my mind is pure,” Poco Lee said.
He also acknowledged the support he received from people close to him, particularly Nigerian singer Burna Boy and entertainer Rahman Jago.
“Nobody would have wanted to associate themselves with something like that, but Burna Boy stood by me, Jago and some of my other guys,” he said.
VeryDarkMan, who published the video call online, questioned some of the reports surrounding Poco Lee’s situation while commending Burna Boy and Rahman Jago for supporting the dancer.
In the caption accompanying the video, he wrote: “I just got off a video call with @rahman_jago_ and @poco_lee. I guess the next narrative will be this is AI.”
He added that his comments were based on his claim of maintaining personal integrity.
The development comes as Poco Lee’s case remains before the courts in the UK.
Snaresbrook Crown Court had previously fixed 15 September for plea and trial preparation.
The case followed Poco Lee’s visit to the UK in August for the Davido and Friends concert, held at the Crystal Palace Bowl in London on 14 August.
Poco Lee has not been convicted of any offence, and the allegation against him remains a matter for determination by the court.
