Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has said projects to be implemented during his second term will focus on boosting commerce, increasing productivity and promoting sustainable business growth across the state.
Oyebanji stated this on Wednesday at a town hall meeting with stakeholders from Ekiti North Senatorial District on the 2027 budget, held in Ifaki-Ekiti.
The governor said his administration would prioritise investments in healthcare, electricity, road infrastructure and water supply, noting that the projects would be designed to improve living standards and strengthen economic activities.
He said limited resources made it necessary for government projects to generate measurable value for residents and the state economy.
“In our second term, whatever we are going to do must add value, because resources are limited. There must be value addition. We must catalyse productivity and ensure our people are productive,” Oyebanji said.
He added that the administration would strengthen its consultative approach to governance by using inputs from communities to determine priority projects.
Oyebanji also disclosed that the state’s collaboration with the Federal Government had facilitated the award of major road projects, including the Ado-Ijan-Ilumoba-Ikole and Ado-Aramoko-Ita-Ore roads.
On electricity, the governor said efforts had been made to extend power supply to more communities, but noted that existing legal provisions restricting states to power generation had affected distribution.
He also commended traditional rulers for their contributions to security, particularly through intelligence gathering, while urging residents to remain vigilant.
On the 2027 presidential election, Oyebanji said Ekiti would intensify mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, citing federal appointments and infrastructure projects as areas where the state had benefited from the administration.
“We must show appreciation. It will not be enough to repeat previous figures. We must do more in the next election,” he said.
The governor said his second term, which begins on October 16, 2026, would continue to focus on inclusive governance and the delivery of his shared prosperity agenda.
Providing updates on the health sector, Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, said more than 300 nurses and 1,500 health assistants had been recruited in the last four years.
Filani added that primary and secondary healthcare facilities had been upgraded, while three new general hospitals had been approved for Ipao, Ikogosi and Awo-Ekiti.
Similarly, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof Bolaji Aluko, disclosed that more than 500 boreholes had been constructed across the state, with another 110 proposed to improve access to water.
Traditional rulers and community representatives from Ekiti North commended the administration’s development efforts while presenting their priorities for the 2027 budget.
They called for increased attention to roads, electricity, water supply, healthcare and security across their communities.
The Alaaye of Oke Ayedun, Oba Femi Aribisala, appealed for urgent intervention in roads, water and electricity in Ikole Local Government, saying poor infrastructure was hindering economic activities.
Similarly, representatives of Moba Local Government, the Obaleo of Erinmope, Oba Sunday Aniyi; the Olojudo of Ido-Ekiti, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro; and the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon, called for improved infrastructure, electricity, security and water supply.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the State Government Habibat Adubiaro, Chief of Staff Oyeniyi Adebayo, Head of Service Folakemi Olomojobi, members of the State Executive Council, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, political leaders and community representatives.
