The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting for Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 General Election.
The meeting, which marks the 100-day countdown to the first ballot of the 2027 elections, will bring together political party leaders, media organisations, security agencies, civil society groups, religious leaders, development partners, members of the diplomatic community and other stakeholders.
The event will hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja from 10am and will be strictly by invitation.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address participants and engage Nigerians and key stakeholders on the commission’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The commission announced the meeting in a post on its official X handle on Wednesday, saying it would provide an opportunity to discuss preparations for the polls and strengthen engagement with relevant stakeholders.
INEC said, “As preparations intensify for the 2027 General Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) invites political parties, the media, security agencies, civil society organisations, religious leaders, development partners, the diplomatic community and other stakeholders to a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders Meeting marking the 100-day milestone to the first ballot.”
The commission added that the event would be addressed by Amupitan and would provide an opportunity to engage Nigerians and key stakeholders on preparations for the 2027 General Election.
According to INEC’s official timetable, the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on March 6, 2027.
The October 6 meeting is therefore expected to provide a platform for the electoral body to outline its level of preparedness and engage stakeholders on issues relating to the conduct of the elections.
