Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against the club by the Premier League over alleged breaches of its financial regulations.
The Athletic reported on Friday that the verdict was communicated to Premier League clubs following a meeting on Thursday, with City found guilty on all but one of the charges.
However, the sanctions have yet to be determined. The club could face a range of potential penalties and is expected to appeal the verdict.
A Manchester City spokesperson, quoted by The Athletic, said the Premier League’s process was still ongoing and that significant elements of the case remained to be completed.
“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality,” the spokesperson said.
The club also reiterated its position from a statement issued in February 2023, saying it had “diligently respected due process” throughout the proceedings.
The Premier League brought the charges against City over alleged breaches committed between 2009 and 2018. The investigation followed the publication of leaked financial documents concerning the club by German newspaper Der Spiegel in 2018.
The allegations were subsequently referred to an independent commission, which conducted hearings into the case.
Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing and maintained that they complied with the relevant financial regulations.
Since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover, City have won eight Premier League titles, four FA Cups, seven League Cups and one Champions League. Six of those major honours were won after the period covered by the charges.
