President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delayed his return to Nigeria from his working vacation in Europe, with the President now expected to arrive in the country on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The latest adjustment to his itinerary comes after the Presidency had earlier indicated that Tinubu would return at the weekend following an extension of his stay abroad.
Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for a three-week working vacation as part of his annual leave, initially beginning the trip in London before travelling to Paris, France, where he held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré.
The latest change means the President’s stay in Europe has extended beyond the original three-week period announced by the Presidency.
According to reports citing Presidency sources, Tinubu is expected to return through Lagos, where he is expected to attend to official duties before returning to Abuja the following weekend.
The President is also expected to remain in Lagos for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1.
The latest adjustment marks the second time Tinubu’s expected return has been pushed back since he left Nigeria on August 30.
The Presidency had announced on September 21 that the President’s working vacation had been extended by a few days, saying he would return to Nigeria at the weekend.
While abroad, the Presidency said Tinubu had remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued to direct the affairs of government, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing him at some official engagements.
