The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday convene a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference as preparations for the 2027 general elections enter the final 100-day stretch.

The commission said the engagement would provide an update on its readiness for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja and will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other stakeholders in the electoral process.

INEC said the meeting was intended to give Nigerians and key participants in the electoral process a clearer picture of its level of preparedness for the 2027 polls.

“The Commission will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” the commission said in a statement.

It added that the national stakeholders’ meeting would strengthen engagement with institutions and organisations whose activities are important to the conduct and security of the elections.

According to the commission, the initiative reflects its commitment to “absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem”.

Those expected to attend include political party leaders, security agencies participating in the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups.

Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected at the meeting.

The engagement comes as INEC continues preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the commission expected to finalise a range of logistical, administrative and technological arrangements ahead of the polls.

INEC did not indicate whether any changes to the existing electoral timetable would be announced during the meeting. It said, however, that Amupitan would address participants alongside other key stakeholders.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10am on Tuesday, 6 October, with invited guests expected to be seated by that time.

The commission said proceedings would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms to allow wider public access.

Attendance at the venue will be strictly by invitation, while accredited journalists and invited guests will be required to present invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
