Super Eagles step up preparations for Russia clash with 19 players

Nineteen players are currently in the Super Eagles’ camp in Nizhny Novgorod ahead of their international friendly against Russia on Tuesday.

The team has been affected by injuries and the refusal of some clubs to release their players for the encounter.

Captain Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Akpe were unable to honour the invitation due to injury, while Bright Osayi-Samuel, Raphael Onyedika and Ridwan Abdulrasaq Popoola were prevented from travelling to Russia by their respective clubs.

Late invitee Ibraheem Ajasa of FC Rostov arrived at the team’s camp on Monday, taking the number of players in camp to 19.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to hold their final training session on Monday night as they put the finishing touches to their preparations for the friendly.

The match will be played at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium and will kick off at 5pm Nigerian time on Tuesday.
