Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and leaders of the Rainbow Coalition on Tuesday met with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt.

The meeting was also attended by the Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kingsley Chinda, and former Senator Magnus Abe, among other political supporters.

The closed-door meeting lasted for about four hours, with neither Wike nor Fubara addressing journalists afterwards. No official statement was immediately issued on the outcome of the discussions.

The meeting marked another step in the ongoing reconciliation efforts between political camps in Rivers State following the prolonged dispute between Wike and Fubara.

It was also the first known occasion in the current reconciliation process in which Fubara personally hosted a meeting involving supporters from both his political camp and the Wike-led coalition.

The development follows earlier engagements by a reconciliation committee led by Abe, which has held meetings with Fubara as part of efforts to rebuild relations among members of the state’s political establishment.

In August, the committee assured stakeholders that no member of the political family would be victimised or discriminated against as part of the reconciliation process.

Fubara had also previously declared his support for the Rainbow Coalition and endorsed Chinda as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

While the specific details of Tuesday’s meeting were not made public, reports indicated that the engagement was part of broader efforts to consolidate the political rapprochement and coordinate the activities of the different camps ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting also brought together supporters associated with Fubara and the Rainbow Coalition, amid ongoing consultations on the political arrangement in Rivers State.

The coalition has yet to formally commence its campaign for the 2027 elections.
