Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped four places to 30th in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking released on Wednesday.
The three-time African champions, who were ranked 26th globally in the previous edition, also slipped from fourth to sixth in Africa.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked team and are seventh in the world, followed by Senegal in 18th, Egypt in 25th, Algeria in 28th and Côte d’Ivoire in 29th.
Nigeria complete the top six in Africa with 1,567.97 points.
The latest decline followed a difficult international window for Eric Chelle’s side, who recorded one victory, one defeat and one draw.
The Super Eagles opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo.
George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored their first senior international goals as Nigeria recovered from conceding an early goal to secure all three points.
However, Nigeria suffered a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in Bissau in their next qualifying fixture.
Franculino Djú, Mama Baldé and Álvaro Djaló scored for the hosts, with the heavy defeat significantly affecting Nigeria’s ranking points.
The Super Eagles rounded off the international window with a 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.
Although the result earned Nigeria additional ranking points, it was not enough to offset the impact of the defeat to Guinea-Bissau.
Nigeria had retained 26th position globally in FIFA’s previous ranking but dropped from fourth to sixth in Africa after the latest set of results.
The other teams in Africa’s top 10 are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Mali and South Africa, who are ranked 40th, 43rd, 47th and 48th in the world respectively.
At the top of the global ranking, Spain remain world number one after extending their lead following a strong run of results.
Argentina are second, while France and England occupy third and fourth positions respectively. Portugal moved up two places to fifth, overtaking Brazil and Morocco.
Brazil are sixth, Morocco seventh, while Belgium, the Netherlands and Mexico complete the global top 10.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking is scheduled for release on November 18, 2026.
