The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) Plc over alleged money laundering offences involving ₦582.43 million.
The company was arraigned on Monday, October 12, 2026, before Justice O. A. Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on a six-count amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/644/2025.
The EFCC disclosed this in a statement, adding that the charge also named the company’s director, Zavyalov Dmitry, whom it described as being at large.
According to the commission, ALSCON, classified as a Designated Non-Financial Business and Profession, and its director allegedly failed to report certain financial transfers from the company’s account to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML), as required by the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The transfers, which reportedly occurred between March and July 2024, included ₦147.52 million, ₦156.03 million, ₦121.43 million and ₦127.34 million paid to Udatson Nigeria.
Other transactions listed in the charge included ₦15.12 million paid to Urico Global Services in April 2024 and ₦15 million paid to Christopher Azogu in June 2024.
The commission alleged that the company and its director failed to report the transactions in writing to SCUML as required by law.
The first count alleged that ALSCON and Dmitry, “sometime in March, 2024 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, failed to report in writing to the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML), a single transfer of the sum of ₦147,515,050.00” paid to Udatson Nigeria from an account operated by the company.
The charge stated that the alleged offence contravened provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and was punishable under Sections 11(3), 19(2)(b) and 22 of the Act.
The EFCC’s lead counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, told the court that the alleged offences were punishable under the cited provisions of the law.
When the charges were read, ALSCON’s Acting Managing Director, Ime Monday Inyang, pleaded not guilty to all six counts on behalf of the company.
The company’s counsel had urged the court to quash the charges, arguing that ALSCON was innocent of the allegations.
Following the plea, Justice Egwuatu adjourned the case until January 27, 2027, for the commencement of trial.
