The Kwara State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with alleged illegal possession of firearms, possession of severed human hands, grave desecration and kidnapping-related offences.

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the command’s efforts to combat violent crime and other criminal activities across the state.

In one of the cases, police arrested a 52-year-old physically challenged man, Joseph Adeoye, and 35-year-old Issa Fatai over the alleged illegal possession and attempted purchase of a locally made pistol.

Ojo said police operatives intercepted Adeoye at a social spot in Oja-Tuntun Market during a surveillance operation and recovered a locally made, cut-to-size pistol from him.

He said further investigations led to Fatai’s arrest after he was allegedly identified as the intended buyer of the weapon.

According to the commissioner, both suspects reportedly admitted their involvement in the transaction during interrogation.

“The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations,” Ojo said.

He added that the arrests formed part of the command’s intensified efforts to curb illegal possession of firearms, kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes in Kwara State.

In a separate case, the police arrested two men, identified as Kamalden Lukmon and AbdulGaniyu Ibrahim, over the alleged possession of two severed human hands.

Ojo said the suspects were arrested at about 4pm last Thursday during a police operation, while the recovered body parts had prompted investigations into their origin and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The suspects allegedly claimed that a vigilante member, identified as Abdulraf Apata, had handed the body parts to them.

The commissioner said investigators were examining the claim to establish the facts and determine whether other individuals were involved.

“The two suspects are currently in our custody at the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), while investigations continue to establish the identity of the possible victim, determine the circumstances surrounding the death and bring anyone found culpable to justice,” he said.

The command also announced the arrest of suspects over the alleged exhumation of graves and removal of human heads at a cemetery in Omupo, Kwara State.

According to Ojo, the incident was discovered in May 2026 when community members visited the cemetery to bury a corpse and found that some graves had been dug up, with the heads of the buried bodies missing.

He said police intelligence subsequently led to the arrest of Abu Jimoh and Ayo Jimoh at about 5am on 8 October while they were allegedly digging graves at the same cemetery.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the offence and identified a herbalist, Mukaila Bello, as their alleged patron.

The commissioner did not provide further details on the third suspect’s arrest in the account presented at the briefing.

In another development, the police announced the arrest of Abubakar Usman, popularly known as Jaye, a wanted suspect allegedly linked to kidnapping incidents in Oke-Ode and Oro-Ago.

Usman was also linked to the killing of members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The command said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen security across the state.
