The traditional ruler was said to have collapsed on Wednesday and was taken to a hospital, where he remained unconscious until his death on Thursday evening.
His death comes nearly a year after a crisis rocked Idogun in October 2025, when some residents allegedly assaulted him in an incident that attracted widespread attention on social media.
Following the incident, the monarch reportedly left the community and remained away until his death.
In the aftermath of the crisis, the Ondo State Government set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and submit its findings. However, the panel’s report has yet to be made public.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, who is also an indigene of Idogun, confirmed the monarch’s death, saying community chiefs had informed him of the development.
Ajanaku expressed the state government’s condolences to the late monarch’s family and the people of Idogun. He also called on residents to maintain peace and order during the mourning period and avoid any form of violence.
Meanwhile, reports from the community indicated that tensions persisted following the monarch’s death, with some residents reportedly opposing the return of his remains to Idogun on Thursday.
According to the reports, the residents blocked the road with logs of wood, preventing those conveying the body from entering the community.
The development reportedly forced the group to turn back and return the remains to a mortuary in Owo.
