President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap.
Under the extension, Nwakuche will remain in office until 26 May 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will run until 30 June 2028.
The approval was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the extension followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in both agencies and give their respective boards sufficient time to appoint successors.
“President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains,” the statement said.
Onanuga recalled that Tinubu nominated Nwakuche as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, with the Senate confirming his appointment in March 2025.
Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on 21 February 2024 and confirmed by the Senate on 1 March 2024.
The extension is intended to ensure continuity in the leadership of both agencies while arrangements are made for the appointment of their successors.
