The advisory, dated 20 October 2026, was issued by the state’s Ministry of Health and Human Services to raise public awareness about Ebola, its symptoms, transmission risks and the procedures for reporting suspected cases.
According to the government, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has begun contact tracing, with 44 close contacts identified following the confirmed case involving a woman who recently arrived in Nigeria from Uganda.
As part of its preparedness efforts, the Ekiti State Government said it had undertaken training for healthcare workers and surveillance teams, alongside public awareness campaigns, laboratory training and the stockpiling of personal protective equipment.
Residents were urged to maintain regular hand hygiene and avoid contact with the blood and other bodily fluids of anyone suspected of having the disease.
The advisory also listed warning signs, including fever, severe weakness, headache, vomiting and diarrhoea, advising anyone who develops such symptoms, particularly after possible exposure, to seek guidance from public health authorities.
The government further advised individuals who suspect they may have been exposed to Ebola to contact health officials before visiting a healthcare facility, to help ensure appropriate precautions are taken.
It also cautioned the public against circulating unverified information or stigmatising people affected by the disease, stressing the importance of responsible communication and cooperation with health authorities.
Reassuring residents of its commitment to safeguarding public health, the state government called for calm, vigilance and compliance with official health guidance.
Members of the public can report suspected Ebola cases through the following emergency contact numbers: 07049204288, 08160193629 and 07049204334.
