The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, urging Nigerians to support the administration’s agenda as the party prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

Yilwatda made the remarks at the flag-off of the APC presidential campaign in Kaduna State, where he welcomed Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima to the North-West region.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman described the event as an important step in the party’s efforts to consolidate its achievements and secure another term for the President.

He attributed the enthusiasm surrounding the campaign to what he described as growing public confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, particularly among women and young people who, he said, supported the administration’s vision for economic growth and national development.

“Mr President, the people have spoken, and their voice is loud and clear. Nigerians are happy. Our women are happy, our youths are happy, and the people are encouraged by your leadership,” Yilwatda said.

He described Tinubu as a leader willing to make difficult decisions in pursuit of national development and maintained that the APC was united and prepared for the forthcoming election.

The party chairman also pointed to political realignments involving the Accord Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), presenting them as part of the wider political debate surrounding Tinubu’s leadership and the country’s future.

Yilwatda said the party’s campaign would focus on the administration’s record, ongoing reforms and its plans for Nigeria’s future.

He urged voters to consider both the challenges facing the country and what he described as the need for decisive action to address longstanding structural problems.

According to him, the Tinubu administration has demonstrated the political will to confront difficult economic conditions, improve infrastructure and reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth.

He expressed optimism that the benefits of the reforms would become more apparent as implementation progressed.

Yilwatda further argued that the President’s first term had laid the groundwork for a second administration to pursue greater prosperity, security and inclusion.

“The task before us is to consolidate the gains, deepen the reforms and ensure that the promise of Renewed Hope translates into greater opportunities, improved livelihoods and shared prosperity for our people,” he said.

He added that the APC believed Tinubu should be given another term to continue the administration’s programmes.

Seven North-West Governors receive APC flags

A key moment at the campaign event was the presentation of APC flags to governors from the seven states in the North-West, whom Yilwatda identified as seeking re-election.

The governors named were:

  • Uba Sani of Kaduna State
  • Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State
  • Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State
  • Umar Namadi of Jigawa State
  • Nasir Idris of Kebbi State
  • Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State
  • Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State

Yilwatda said the presentation demonstrated the party’s confidence in its state leadership and its determination to strengthen its political presence across the region.

He urged the governors to maintain close contact with their constituents, promote party unity and mobilise support for Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.

The chairman described the North-West as strategically important to the party’s electoral prospects, saying a successful campaign would require grassroots mobilisation, effective communication and cooperation among party leaders.

He also called on APC members, elected officials and supporters across the seven states to work together, stressing that unity, discipline and a common purpose would be essential to the party’s campaign.

The APC chairman commended the Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Uba Sani, alongside party officials, campaign organisers and supporters, for their contributions to the launch.

He described Kaduna as a strategic venue for the campaign’s commencement, citing the North-West’s significance in the party’s national mobilisation efforts.

Yilwatda urged party members to conduct their campaigns with discipline, respect for democratic principles and a focus on policy issues.

He said the party intended to communicate the administration’s policies, achievements and future commitments to voters as campaigning continued across the country.

Reaffirming the APC’s readiness for the 2027 election, he called on Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process and consider the party’s record and plans.

“The journey to 2027 has begun, and the APC is ready. We have a President with the courage to lead, a party with the capacity to mobilise and a vision centred on the prosperity of our people,” he said.
