The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old woman, Fatima Dalha, for allegedly stabbing her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during a disagreement over money and personal belongings in Dass Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 6am on Sunday in Lirr Bajar, where the couple allegedly argued over money, wrappers and a mobile phone the woman claimed belonged to her.
According to a statement issued by the command on Sunday, the disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which Fatima allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed her husband.
The injured man was reportedly rushed to a hospital by police operatives from the Dass Division and is receiving medical treatment.
The command said Fatima was nearly lynched by an angry mob before police officers arrived and rescued her from the scene.
The suspect has been taken into custody, while the knife allegedly used in the attack has been recovered.
Police said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over domestic violence among young couples and urged partners to resolve disagreements peacefully.
“A moment of anger can destroy two lives forever. We urge couples to seek peaceful means, through family, elders and lawful channels, instead of resorting to violence,” the commissioner said in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.
Aliyu also warned residents against jungle justice, assuring the public that the police would ensure the matter was handled professionally and humanely.
