The Rotary Club of Ikeja has partnered with the Field of Skills and Dreams Academy to empower four youths through a free three-month vocational training programme.

The initiative aligns with Rotary International’s Economic and Community Development theme for October and aims to equip the beneficiaries with practical skills to improve their employment prospects and support self-reliance.

The beneficiaries are Olumide Akingbohungbe, Yemisi Olubode, Ayodeji Olanrewaju and Daniel Oyebami. They will receive training in fashion design, solar panel installation, hospitality and catering, and heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC).

The presentation of the beneficiaries for the free training and empowerment programme took place during a meeting of the club at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja.

Speaking at the event, the club’s Service Projects Chair, Rotarian Gbenga Fetuga, said careful consideration was given to selecting both the beneficiaries and the vocational skills on offer.

“Being the foremost club in the District, we are expected to live up to it in all areas, and we are always detailed in the selection of both the beneficiaries as well as the vocational skills,” he said.

Fetuga explained that the selected skills were intended to meet practical market needs, particularly the demand for qualified air-conditioning and refrigeration technicians.

“The skills we chose are very strong skills for our trainees. Nearly every home, office, hotel and shop in Lagos runs ACs and fridges. So, qualified technicians are always in demand, and graduates can start their own repair businesses,” he added.

The President of the Rotary Club of Ikeja, Rotarian Kayode Osokomaiya, reaffirmed the club’s commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of the beneficiaries through the empowerment initiative.

The three-month programme is expected to provide the participants with practical training that could help them pursue employment or establish their own businesses in their chosen fields.
