The Delta State Commissioner for Special Duties in the Government House, Dr Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, has urged media organisations across Nigeria to strengthen their commitment to credible reporting, editorial professionalism and responsible journalism.
Osuoza made the call on Wednesday in a statement congratulating the state-owned newspaper, The Pointer, on its 32nd anniversary.
The former Commissioner for Information in Delta State described the milestone as an opportunity for reflection and renewed dedication to the core principles of journalism.
“For me, this anniversary is not merely a celebration of longevity. It is an opportunity for reflection, renewal, and recommitment to the fundamental principles of journalism: truth, fairness, accuracy, objectivity, and accountability,” he said.
Osuoza described the newspaper’s 32-year journey as a testament to resilience, institutional relevance and enduring public service.
He said the publication had spent more than three decades documenting Delta State’s development, telling its stories and providing a platform for the aspirations of its people.
“As The Pointer Newspaper, the flagship publication of the Delta State Government, marks this significant milestone, I warmly congratulate its management, editorial team, staff, and all those whose dedication and sacrifices have sustained the newspaper through the years,” the statement read.
Drawing on his experience as a former Commissioner for Information, Osuoza said he understood the newspaper’s strategic role in communicating government policies, amplifying public concerns and encouraging constructive discourse.
He noted that the anniversary offered the publication an opportunity to renew its commitment to professional journalism and continue contributing to public understanding of government activities and societal developments.
Osuoza’s message also highlighted the broader responsibility of the media to uphold truth, fairness, accuracy, objectivity and accountability in its coverage of public affairs.
He urged journalists and media organisations to maintain high editorial standards and ensure that responsible reporting remained central to their work.
