Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, on its 50th anniversary, commending five decades of journalism, public enlightenment and service to society.
The governor described the Golden Jubilee as a significant milestone in the history of journalism in Ogun State and an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of generations of media professionals to democratic governance, accountability, peace and development.
Abiodun noted that the media remained an indispensable partner in the development process, serving as a vital link between government and the people through credible information, constructive engagement and informed public discourse.
He commended journalists in the state for documenting Ogun State’s history, reporting its achievements and challenges, and providing a platform for residents to express their views and aspirations.
The governor urged members of the union to sustain the noble traditions of journalism by upholding truth, fairness, accuracy and professionalism, while resisting misinformation and disinformation in an increasingly complex media environment.
He also emphasised the importance of press freedom, responsible reporting and continuous professional development, noting that a credible and ethical media was essential to strengthening public trust and advancing democratic values.
As the NUJ, Ogun State Council, celebrates 50 years of existence, Abiodun encouraged its leadership to use the anniversary to promote greater unity among members, strengthen professional standards and inspire younger journalists to embrace integrity, courage and responsibility in their work.
The governor wished the union a memorable Golden Jubilee celebration and many more years of impactful contributions to journalism, good governance and the sustainable development of Ogun State.
