The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has commended the Nigerian Army for deploying a new battalion and an artillery regiment to Kano State, describing the move as a strategic intervention to strengthen security across the state and the North-West region.
Barau, who also praised President Bola Tinubu and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, said the establishment of the 24 Battalion in Tudun Wada and the 311 Artillery Regiment in Dambatta demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and insecurity across the country.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the senator also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, for what he described as visionary leadership and proactive efforts to reposition the military to address security challenges.
“This strategic deployment is highly commendable. It underscores the commitment of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to decisively deal with insecurity and secure the lives and properties of all Nigerians,” the statement said.
Barau also praised Governor Yusuf for his commitment to protecting lives and property in Kano State, noting that cooperation between the state government and the military was essential to ensuring the effective operation of the newly established formations.
The Deputy Senate President urged residents of Dambatta, Tudun Wada and other communities across Kano State to support the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in their operations.
He stressed that the fight against banditry and other criminal activities required collective efforts, particularly through the provision of timely and reliable intelligence by residents.
“The fight against banditry and other forms of criminality is a collective one. I urge all our traditional leaders, community leaders and residents to cooperate fully with the military, share timely intelligence and support these newly established formations to succeed. Without community support, our security agencies cannot fully defeat these criminals,” he said.
Barau reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to providing the necessary legislative backing and ensuring adequate resources for the Armed Forces and other security agencies to tackle banditry and other forms of criminality across Nigeria.
The deployment of the new military formations is expected to strengthen security operations and improve the capacity of security agencies to respond to threats in Kano State and neighbouring areas.
