Suspected thugs have attacked supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) during a campaign rally in Delta State, leaving some people injured and others reportedly dispossessed of their belongings.

The incident occurred on Saturday while the party’s supporters were gathered at the rally venue.

The suspected attackers reportedly disrupted the gathering, assaulted some supporters and damaged a vehicle parked near the venue.

Footage of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, showed people fleeing in different directions as they struggled to escape the attack.

Some supporters were reportedly injured in the ensuing confusion, while others lost their mobile phones and personal belongings as they ran for safety.

In a video circulating online, a voice believed to be that of one of the attendees condemned the attack, insisting that the supporters had gathered peacefully to campaign.

“We came here to campaign in peace. We did not come to fight anybody. What happened today is not good for democracy,” the voice said.

As of the time of filing this report, further details surrounding the attack, including the identity of those responsible and the circumstances that led to the incident, had yet to be established.
