Natural benefits of eating African star apple, ‘agbalumo’

It is the season of the traditional fruit with the name African star apple (popularly known as agbalumo) in the South West and Udara in the south east part of Nigeria.

According to research, African star apple is a fruit that is loved by a large percentage of people. At a glance, the African cherry appears rather small and insignificant in comparison with many other fruits. Yet, experts on nutrition have affirmed its uncommon nutritional benefits as well as its efficacy in the prevention and management of diabetes and heart diseases.

It is predominantly in tropical regions, usually harvested between December and March. But how much do people eat this fruit? Breezy News correspondent, Oluwasemiloore Ige spoke with people. Let’s hear their views

A nutritionist, Mr James Oloyede said African star apple is rich in water, vitamins,minerals and recommended that it should be consumed between meals two to three times daily by everyone

Mr Oloyede advised the people to always take Africa star apple as it is good for the body.
