The Special Adviser on Climate Change to the Kaduna State Governor, Hon. Yusuf Idris Amoke has stresses the importance of educating students on issues related to global warming and methods to mitigate environmental degradation.

He highlighted the significant role climate education plays in raising awareness among students about coexisting with plants and animals in their environment.

He advocated for the presence of trees in all schools to combat erosion and other forms of environmental degradation, calling for the establishment of Green Clubs in all schools across the 23 Local Government Areas in the state.

Amoke emphasises that geography studies empower students to learn various ways to protect their environment, asserting that geography teaching is at its best when it equips young people with skills for an increasingly globalised economy.

He suggested several ways to spread awareness about climate change in the country, including sharing news on social media, citing scientific research and evidence, providing real-life examples, discussing global solutions to the problem, and encouraging personal actions to fight climate change.

To further drive awareness, he proposed hanging up awareness posters and creating art related to climate change to sensitise students through drawing.

Responding, Kaduna State Director of Womanhood College of Health Science and Technology, Mallam Nurudden Bello emphasised the significance of educating school students on effective ways to combat issues related to climate change and environmental degradation through awareness.

He expresses his delight over Amoke’s visit to the school, where hundreds of students were sensitised about climate change.

According to him, climate change poses a threat to the existence of humans, animals, and other living organisms.

Bello pointed out that the country is experiencing extreme heat due to climate change, emphasising the need to engage students in learning various ways to protect their environment and ecosystem.
