It’s a mixture of tradition, culture and contemporary entertainment as the people of Itoriland in Ogun State celebrate the 18th coronation anniversary of Oba Abdul-Fatai Akorede Ayinde Akamo, the Olu nla of Itori Egbaland.
Itori is the headquarters of Ewekoro Local Government Area, an area that has been quarried for the production of cement since 1959 by the then West African Portland Cement Company, now Lafarge. As a result of the development witnessed in the years of Oba Akamo’s reign, the Itori-Ewekoro axis has began to harness its potential as a preferred destination for foreign and local investments given its proximity to the two largest cities in Nigeria’s southwest region – Lagos and Ibadan.
Dignitaries from far and wide stormed Itoriland on Saturday to commemorate with the traditional ruler and his people.
Expected at the ceremony are the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun; the state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Moruf Afuape; and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, among other bigwigs.
Meanwhile, a prominent son of Amororo Royal family in Owu-Abeokuta, Prince Babajide Fadairo has congratulated Oba Akamo on the anniversary. An aspirant for the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections, Fadairo wished Itoriland more progress during the reign of Oba Akamo and beyond.
