The Nineteen Seventeen Northern Consensus Movement (NSNCM) has called on the Presidency to consider official Air Force 2 carrier to Vice president Kashim Shattma.
In statement on Wednesday, NSNCM’s President, Comrade Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu said: “Mr. President Sir, the social settings and information reaching us, backed by the Chief Press Secretary Bayo Onanuga, are all awashed with the concern of ‘Air force 2’, the official carrier of the Vice President (VP). Since the inception of this government, a couple of very close-calls have happened to the aircraft.
“The most recent one happened at the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Airport in the United States of America. This hindered the VP attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Samoa.
“His non-appearance there to represent Nigeria had its minuses. With the economic challenging, transitional and transformative times, it was an avenue to express the thinking, action or steps taken and policies to the larger Commonwealth Family.
“This avenue with its question-and-answer sessions would has proffered a medium where other sister countries would have contributed on how they navigated out of there’s. With multiple models, modules and advices for which way forward and for ultimate deployment using our peculiarity as a template”.
The statement added” “Most importantly is the security and peace of mind of the No.2 citizen, in which the tools required for the office to operate optimally are not only required, but to be in top drawer shape and configuration.
“Alhamdullilah, Air force 1 is very airworthy and we look forward to an airworthy Air Force 2. This with quell unwanted and unwarranted misgivings on the social media and the county as a whole.
“Alhamdullilah, the VP, the crew and his entourage are safe from the last incidence…We hope there would be no such reoccurrence again. We at NSNCM are confident that you will use your good office, officers and executive fiat to address this important issue.
“We may also wish to ascertain our track records with all organs of national security. Peace and development are travel companions. So is it our responsibility to avail our movement in areas of advocacy, enlightenment and vital information dissemination”.
