Supporters of the two leading parties in the Osun State governorship election conducted on Saturday are on edge – each claiming to have gained the momentum – as results came in from across the units in the 30 Local Government Areas.
As at 10:50 pm, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was yet to open its election collation centre in Osogbo, the state capital. But there are indications that that might happen before midnight.
One of the major highlights of the results is the defeat of Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s All Progressive Congress APC) at the Government House polling unit in Osogbo.
The governorship election score sheet for the centre – Agowande/Oshogbo GRA/Governor’s office polling unit in Olorunda Local Government Area – showed that the Peoples Democratic Party scored 117 votes as against 106 by the APC. The result sheet was prepared by the Assistant Polling Officer 1, Nwachukwu Henrietta Chidinma.
In the last election four years ago, only 482 separated both APC and PDP with the former winning the day. APC scored 255,505 as against 255,023 for PDP. As it is this time, it was also Oyetola versus Adeleke.
The other parties appear to have put up a poor showing.
